Painting Finals

Here they are hours of work on a canvas :) The first is a three week, in class painting, done on studio time in about 15 hours. It was our in class final and we had to choose from preset still lifes around the room. The second piece was our homework final composed by myself, and painted in just about 15 hours as well, over one week. I was pretty happy with how the lighting came out in both of them but the cloth, gahhhhh the cloth was not my favorite part to paint :) The class itself though was excellent! Amazing teacher and a good first time experience with oils.

Life Drawing Sequence

These are sequence drawings from Le Royaume and Ratatouille, The goal was to keep the figure in proportion with the other figures and create a sense of movement through the page.

Dreamworks Animation Studios

This Friday the PMC took a tour of Dreamworks Animation Studios in Glendale. And I must say... wow it was so pretty! The buildings have climbing flora covering them, there are fountains every where, and some of the best food I have eaten. The entire campus feels like a Tuscan palace. It was great to see the work environment, and receive input on what it takes to land a job at a large corporate animation studio like Dreamworks.

Color Studies

These are a few color studies from my painting class. The bags were used to create isolated shapes of different colors. The blocks were a quick color study focusing on how light and shadow changes color on an object.

Good Times

This is a picture from the Santa Maria Arts Council awards ceremony. It happened a while ago but I just found the picture so I decided to post it late rather than never. It shows all the work I entered into the competition, and is a reminder of the good times and friends I have back home. Thanks to everyone who helped out and supported me, I miss you all very much :)

Sketch Roundup

Hey everyone! Here are some sketches form the past few weeks. They are from around campus and the medieval sword-fighting club which we went and sketched tonight. The sword fighting club had some really cool dramatic poses.

Halloween Party

I just got back from the PMC's Halloween party! (the PMC is an art club on campus here) It was alot of fun we sang along to Nightmare Before Christmas and painted pumpkins. My pumpkin is painted in the spirit of Jackson Pollock. I dressed up as a British big game hunter/safari guide. Overall it was a very fun filled evening, someone brought a cotton candy machine as well!

Oil Painting

So here is on of my oil painting homeworks.  We had to do a still life; its mainly an exploration in color and light. But I thought it turned out pretty good considering its my third oil painting.  The class itself is excellent, so far it is my favorite class this semester.

My First Oil Painting Project

The assignment was to mix every color on the palette with every other color on the palette.  And my goodness did it take longer than I thought it would, about 5 hours of work.

So Megan and Brett came by, on their way back from Disneyland, and we had a grand time of not getting enough sleep due to chatting; and then sleeping in and making a wonderful breakfast this morning!

Pacific Asia Museum

Today me and my mom went up to Pasadena to view the Pacific Asia Museum of Art.  It was a pretty cool little museum.  They had a great variety of ceramic ware, as well as statuaries and clothing from almost all of the different Asian cultures. The Japanese exhibit was one of my favorites. The other favorite was a large exhibit on 1960's Chinese modern art. It contained mainly parody works of Mao's propaganda, and the culture in china at the time. Included below are some pictures from the museums courtyard.

Grilled Cheese

So I have a new little herb garden with rosemary, thyme and oregano.  Its got its own little pot, and its cute, and gives me great seasonings.  Today I made a grilled cheese with rosemary and parmesan.  First you get your bread, in this case I just used a french loaf I had around.  Slice it thin and add your cheese, I used cheddar.  Then when you add the butter to the pan also throw in a few rosemary leaves.  Flip and repeat the seasoning.  When its all toasted put a dash of pepper and fresh grated parmesan on it, and voilĂ  you have amazingly tangy and robust grilled cheese!

Summer 2010

So lots happened this summer between moving, vacations, and weddings.  It completely disappeared on me. Like poof, and summer was over!  But besides that, it was a good summer, and at least I can't say it dragged.  Here are some pics from Huntington.  Me, Doug and Reina hiked up China Peak on one of the days.  All I have to say is that it is much easier going up the ski lift in winter, than hiking it on foot in the summer heat.  The others are sketches from the car rides, or relaxing on the beach each day by the lake.
